8bit Experiment

Last year I started a music video for my brother’s song (The Kiffness) called ‘Pushin’ On’. It was an experiment to see how super-low-res-blocky may look in animation. I’d done 8bit stuff before but have always wanted to go *really* low-res. I was moving onto another project and we decided to go with another idea, one of our animation buddies took on the job and did something pretty awesome.

I was cleaning up my hard drive and remember about this. I actually animated another 40 seconds or so, but this was what remains. In retrospect I actually quite like it. I had a finished animatic where the astronauts found an amazing dancing man under the moon – my brother’s real dancing rotoscoped into pixel animation. They brought him back down to Earth and things start out cool with people really digging his dancing and then things go super-pear shaped – he zaps people and birds and they pop and causes major chaos. Nice.
